Obituary

Seth Bernard Isenberg, 67, died peacefully at home in Weatherly on Sunday, May 24, 2026.  He was born May 23, 1959, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Conrad and Eleanor (Bloomfield) Isenberg.

He was a graduate of the University of Hartford, CT, and received an M.B.A. from Southern New Hampshire University.

Marketing and sales positions with amusement parks in California and New England were followed by a move to northeast Pennsylvania in 1986, when he became marketing manager for Rocky Glen Amusement Park in Moosic. He met his future wife, Ruth Holder, when he called to place an advertisement for the park in the Triboro Banner, the newspaper she owned in Old Forge.

After their marriage in 1990, Seth and Ruth took on the management of The Journal-Herald in White Haven, and established The Journal of the Pocono Plateau in the western Poconos. Together they owned and operated other publications in northeast Pennsylvania, including the Valley Views, News of the Poconos, and Lake News in Lake Harmony.

For many of those years, he chronicled life in the Poconos in his weekly column, Seth’s Sightings. Many people in the community looked forward to his hometown insights and observations. In addition to reporting for his own newspapers, Seth also freelanced for the Times News of Lehighton.

Seth served as president of MACPA, the Mid Atlantic Community Papers Association, in 2012. 

He served on its board of directors until 2022.He served on the board of Temple Israel of Lehighton for many years, and was a founding member of Congregation B’nai Harim in Pocono Pines.

He was also a founding board member of the Weatherly Area Community Library.

He is survived by his brother, Matthew Isenberg and wife Elsie; and sister, Elise Barnes, all of North Carolina; nephews, niece, grand-nieces and -nephews of North Carolina; brother-in-law Jay Holder and wife Sharon, and nieces and nephews of Spokane, Washington; and many much-loved cousins, other family, and friends.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Temple Israel of Lehighton Cemetery, Weissport.
