Ruth L. Parfitt

Mrs. Ruth L. (Frantz) Parfitt, age 94, of Tamaqua, passed away peacefully Friday, April 20, 2012, at St Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale.

Born in Tamaqua, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Daniel Frantz and the late Ida Belle (Geiger) Frantz. She was the widow of Robert Isaac Parfitt, who passed away in 1986.

Ruth was a 1935 graduate of Tamaqua High School, where she was a proud member of Girls' Bugle, Drum, and Fife Corps. Ruth had worked at The Corner Shop in Tamaqua and was a dedicated homemaker. She also loved to travel and talked frequently of her two favorite places to visit: Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua, where she had served as a youth choir mother. She was a volunteer at the local election polls for many years. She was also a member of the Tamaqua Area PTA, helping with dozens of school events. She was known for her homemade macaroni and cheese, mint jelly, and rhubarb cake.

Ruth will perhaps be remembered most for her love of the written word. She was a prolific reader, often reading a novel daily.

She is survived by her

Three Daughters, Roberta "Bobbie" (Parfitt) Coccio and her husband Albert of Tamaqua; Linda (Parfitt) Mock and her husband George of Spring Mills; and Wendy (Parfitt) Dunkelberger of Tamaqua;

One Sister, Jane (Frantz) Kinsinger of Fredericksburg, VA;

Fourteen Grandchildren; Twenty-Two Great-Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews

Preceded in death by her son, Sam Parfitt ; grandson, Nicholas Jon Coccio; brothers, Raymond, Edward, Joseph; and sister, Alva Riordan; also siblings Mary, Charles and Clair who passed away in infancy.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church 124 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, Pa., Rev. James Cavallero to officiate.

Memorials in her honor may be sent to the Tamaqua Public Library 30 S. Railroad St., Tamaqua, PA 18252.
