Niles L. Grover

Captain Niles L. Grover, age 90, died Monday, August 29, 2011.

He was born 6/27/1921 in Hudsondale, Pa.

A 1938 graduate of Weatherly High School.

He attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY

Niles joined the Army Air Corps in World War ll where he flew over 40 combat missions in the pacific theatre as a B-24 aircraft squadron commander, leading long range strategic bombing missions. He earned many medals including the distinquished flying cross and the honorary air medal.

After WWII, he became a commercial airline pilot with Seaboard World Airlines, flying heavy freight all over the world until his retirement. He had collected over 37,000 hours of flight time in his pilot career.

After retirement, he and his wife would enjoy flying his small airplane on short trips around the Northeast and Atlantic coast line.

He also enjoyed working on his property, maintaining his hunting and fishing club, and grass airport.

He was the son of the deceased Zenus and Ida May Grover both of Hudsondale. He had one sister, Thelma Grover Stevens, who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Birte E. (Christiansen) Grover.

Also surviving is a son, Jan Grover and his fiancee, Jill;
Two grandchildren, Casey and Tyler Grover, all of Hudsondale.

Jan and, Jill, were at his side when he peacefully passed away.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family by the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home 211 First St., Weatherly, Pa., Philip J. Jeffries, F.D. Supervisor.
