Nancy Lee M. Markovchick

Nancy Lee M. Markovchick, R.N., 73, of Weatherly, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, following a brief illness surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on February 18, 1953, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Nancy was the daughter of the late John and Marie G. (Fadden) Metrick. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Metrick.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, James R. Markovchick, with whom she built a beautiful life and family; her son, Jamie J. Markovchick and his wife, Nicole; her brothers, Ronald Metrick, and Robert Metrick and his wife, Chris; and the two greatest joys of her life, her beloved grandchildren, Grant and Evie. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Nancy graduated from Weatherly High School in 1971 and earned her nursing degree from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1974. Caring for others was not simply Nancy’s profession; it was part of who she was. Her gentle nature, compassion, and genuine concern for others made nursing a natural calling. She devoted more than 25 years to serving as Director of Nursing at Weatherwood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Weatherly before retiring in 2009. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association Directors of Nursing Administration (PADONA) and the American Society for Long Term Care Nursing.

Nancy was also a devoted member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Beaver Meadows, and her faith was an important part of the life she lived.

Music brought Nancy great joy. A gifted pianist, she shared her music generously throughout her life, playing for family and friends, the St. Nicholas Cantata, churches, weddings, and countless special occasions. She also had a wonderful talent for creating beautiful, personalized greeting cards. Those lucky enough to receive one knew it had been thoughtfully made especially for them—a small but perfect example of the way Nancy loved people: personally, intentionally, and wholeheartedly.

Above all else, Nancy loved her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than being a wife, mother, and especially Nana. Grant and Evie were the absolute light of her life, and she treasured every moment she spent with them. She loved them without limits and took every opportunity to celebrate them, spoil them, encourage them, and simply be present in their lives. The bond they shared with their Nana was extraordinary and will remain with them always.

Nancy had a rare sweetness about her. She was gentle and kind, warm and genuine, and had a way of making people feel cared for simply by being herself. She gave freely of her time, her talents, and her heart, never seeking recognition in return. Whether she was caring for a patient, playing the piano, making a card for someone she loved, or spending time with her family, Nancy brought thoughtfulness and love into everything she did. She lived a life centered on caring for others, and in return, she was deeply and dearly loved by so many.

Nancy was a beautiful soul whose life was filled with faith, kindness, music, family, and love. Her absence will be felt beyond measure, but the love she gave so freely—and the countless lives made better simply because she was part of them—will remain her legacy

A Divine Liturgy with Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 31, 2026 at 11 o'clock A.M. from St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church located at 119 Berwick Street Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania 18216.

A calling will take place in church from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M.

Mass will be preceded by a memorial presentation from the Nurse's Honor Guard. Father Vasyl Chepelskyy to officiate.

Interment will be in St. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania.
