James R. Somers, Sr., 95, of Weatherly joined his wife, Rose and daughters, Susan and Jeanne, and grandson, Joel Kreiger, in eternity. He was the son of Susan E. and George L. Somers. He was surrounded by family at his passing. Beloved father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim or Pop-Pop, as he was known by the grands, lived a full life.
In his youth, he served as a life guard at the local pool. A Navy veteran, he served on a supply ship stationed in Newport which allowed him to return home to visit his bride, Rose. He had so many interests including electronics, music, dancing, travel, camping, sailing his pontoon boat and projects in his fully equipped workroom. He could fix anything and cheerfully volunteered his labor to do electrical wiring, curtain hanging, and even planing a fireplace mantle and then staining it to mention but a few of the many projects he completed for family.
During his working years, he was employed by the Borough of Weatherly and later PPL, where he built transmission towers as he wasn’t afraid of heights. Later, he transitioned to heavy vehicle maintenance for the same company.
He is survived by his sons, James, Jr. and wife, Marie, Weatherly, and Stephen and husband, Tod, Ephrata. He is further survived by six grandchildren, Jim (Ashley) and Nick (Jane) Somers, William III, Shaw, Alek and Casey Kreiger as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
Final arrangements will be at the discretion of his family.
