Stoffa
May 4, 1935 – May 22, 2026
George Stoffa of Jim Thorpe, passed away at home on May 22, 2026. He had recently celebrated his 91st birthday on May 4th with his family and long-time friends.
Born in Lansford, Pa, George was the son of Michael and Lena (Surotchak) Stoffa. In 1938 the family moved their growing family to a farm in East Mauch Chunk/Jim Thorpe (formerly Coalport). George was a 1953 graduate of Nesquehoning High School and was a Sonar Tech in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War onboard U.S.S Holder DDE-819. He returned to the area where he met his future wife Louise A. Richards of Coaldale at the Lakeside Ballroom. They married in 1957 and lived in Brentwood, NY on Long Island where they raised their four sons and he worked as a New York Postal Employee – Letter Carrier. In October 1992 he retired and returned home to the family farm in Jim Thorpe. George and Louise celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 7, 2017. His wife Louise passed away in July 2018.
George was predeceased in death by his parents Michael and Lena, his wife Louise, his brothers Michael and John (Jack), his sisters Mary, Anna, Margaret and Lena, and his grandson John Michael. Survivors in addition to his companion Noel (Joy) Bortle are four sons, George and his wife Jennifer, Richard, Thomas, and Stephen and his wife Jacqueline, two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher, great granddaughter Sarina, and many nieces and nephews.
His family loved him dearly and mourned his passing. He will be remembered for his jack of all trades ability to fix anything, his selfless devotion to helping others, his love of family and friends, and his unfailing kindness to everyone.
Service: Visitation with Family will be held 9:30-11 A.M. on May 28, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Slovak Lutheran Church, 1 E Abbott St, Lansford with a Memorial Service following immediately at 11 A.M. Interment will follow at St John’s Cemetery, Summit Hill.
Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to St John the Evangelist Slovak Lutheran Church.
