Dolores D. Martin, a 96-year-old resident of Tamaqua, passed away on Wednesday evening October 29. 2025 in Allentown, held in the warmth of her family's love. She was known to many simply as a good neighbor, and for her, that was the highest compliment.
Born in Tamaqua on August 9, 1929, to the late James and Annabell (Sassaman) Pruett, Dolores was a true local through and through. After graduating from Tamaqua High School, she worked at the National Store and Atlas Powder Co. but found her true calling in the home, raising her family with her beloved husband, Bernard J., who passed away in 2010.
Dolores’s life was rich with the simple, meaningful moments she treasured. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a challenging word puzzle, but her happiest moments were spent with the people she loved. If you were looking for her on a summer evening, you'd find her on her front porch, connecting with the neighbors who were more like family. Her legacy is one of friendship, community, and the simple kindness she extended to everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted children: Gary Martin and his wife Barbara, Dale Martin and his wife Darlene, Diane Mountz wife of Tim, Cathy Holmberg, Ruth Martin, and Beth Martin. Her memory lives on through her beloved grandchildren: Brian Martin and his wife Ellen, Blake Martin and his wife Morgan, Amanda Holmberg, Allison Martin, James Martin and his wife Kristy and Amy Green and her husband Jason, as well as seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister-in-laws, Phyllis Pruett, Jessie Hartwig, and a host of cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Franklin "Pete" Pruett.
