Charles S. Smolar, 75 years of age of Clay Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at St. Luke's Bethlehem.
Widower of Barbara Ann (Scheib) Smolar, Charles is survived by; daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hankey wife of William of Tamaqua; sisters, Mrs. Marie Terry of Coaldale, and Mrs. Kathleen White of Coaldale; grand children, Bill, Jr., Crystal, and Sarah; great grandchildren, Audrey, Madison, and Scott; companion, Deb Kurz; many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Catholic by faith, Charles had worked for the former Keystone Lamp Factory of Slatington and retired from Dana Corporation of Reading. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a long time member of the Tamaqua Flying Club where he enjoyed racing pigeons and was a dog lover often accompanied by his boxers and lab. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling, softball, playing horse shoes at the Coaldale Rod and Gun Club, and running field trails with his trusty beagles.
Born Monday, August 12, 1940 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the son of the late Stephen, and Mamie (Gerber) Smolar. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Stephen and Robert Smolar.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. (570) 668-2550.
A Funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock AM on Saturday June 4, 2016 from the funeral home.
Friends shall be received on Saturday June 4, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
