Susan Papaerman Miller

October 29, 1950 - April 29, 2022

The Paperman name has been synonymous with Tamaqua for decades and this past week we are sad to say, the Paperman era has come to an abrupt end. Susan Paperman Miller, born on October 29, 1950, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, just 4 months after her beloved husband and life partner, Roger Miller. As a kid, Susie was a popular child, and played throughout the Tamaqua streets, running between Paperman’s store at 34 Mach Chunk Street and Kaplan’s Semi Self Service grocery store (her grandparents), at 401 Railroad Street. Susie’s parents were Georgine Kaplan, daughter of Anna and Jake Kaplan, and Barney Paperman, daughter of Leah and Leopold Paperman. Susie was proceeded in death by her older brother, Edward, and infant sister, Margaret. Susie lost her mother, Georgine, to cancer when she was only 9 years old, and she was cared for lovingly by her father, Barney, raised above the family business that was very much a part of the Tamaqua community. Survived by many cousins from both sides, the shared memories of such a kind, fun, sweet, caring woman have been emphasized greatly in describing the 71-year old Susie. A graduate of the Tamaqua High class of 1968 and of Brandywine College, in Delaware, Susie’s first real venture out of Tamaqua, was to the historic Woodstock gathering with friends. She was a high-school cheerleader and always popular among her class and neighborhood. She and Roger hold the unique distinction of being one of the very first computer dating matches in history. This was back in the early ‘70’s, with a much less sophisticated algorithm than is known today, but one that obviously did work! Susie was a lifetime animal lover, followed her grandmother Anna Kaplan’s dedication to assisting the Meals on Wheels program and was a school bus driver for young children, a job which she loved dearly. The stories surrounding Susie all exude laughter and fun. In spite of some hard blows that plagued her life, Susie always had a positive attitude and never complained, as long as Roger was by her side. “At our last high school reunion, her cousin Alita Schwartz Grunberg lovingly recalls, “Susie was already in a wheel-chair due to an unfortunate leg amputation, but she loved being pushed around on the dance floor, always one to participate, no matter what.” Susie and Roger loved gadgets, movies, television and life in general—as long as they were together. Susie loved family and was always a phone call away, in spite of the miles that may have separated her loved ones and friends. Pending arrangements entrusted into the care of the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.
