Merl W. Maggs

January 16, 1942 - January 9, 2022

Merl W. Maggs, 79 of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Born Sunday, January 16, 1942 in Williamsport, the son of the late Ernst, and Margaret (Buss) Maggs. He was also predeceased by; brothers, Ernest, and Max Maggs; daughter, Merleen Maggs; granddaughter, Angela; great grandchildren, Rylie, and Dallas. Surviving are; his beloved wife of 45 years, Cynthia M.. (Snyder) Maggs; son, Merl W. Maggs, II and his wife Jessica of Reading; daughters, Jenny S. Mazur and her fiance Christopher Mease of Tamaqua, with whom he resided, Bobbi J. Snyder and her husband Alton of Kempton; brother, Clayton Maggs and his wife Sharon of Fleetwood; sister, Sharon Hufnagle of Antesfort, PA; grandchildren, Madalyn, Shaun, Cheyenne #1, Salena, Kelly, David, McKayla; great grandchildren, Colton, and Shelby. Many nieces and nephews also survive Merl. A Vietnam Army Veteran, Merl was awarded the Purple Heart for his meritorious service while being wounded in action. He retired from Deka Battery, and was a tireless volunteer with the Berks County Fire Police for 18 years. Merl belonged to the Reading V.F.W., and American Legion Post. Merl was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching NASCAR while following his favorite driver Jeff Gordon. Merl's most enjoyable times were those spent with his family.
